Seriously...this is one of those things that shouldn't be an issue but is going to become a huge issue.
People are already outraged about the idea, and understandably so. On the surface, it seems exploitative and just plain slimy.
(You know, like it should be shown on FOX, not CBS. ;) )
Anyway, I think the worst part about this is it'll blow over, and the country will be no better off for it. Controversy dies down after a while, and people will either watch or skip the show.
In the end, segretagion like this is obviously a stunt (no matter WHAT excuse the Survivor jerks or CBS tries to make). There will be typical "outrage," meaning Matt Lauer will talk about it with Jeff Probst some morning on the Today show and use his "stern" face while doing the interview.
The world won't be any less skittish about dealing with the issue of race. The country won't be pulled into some huge debate and work out a lot of the underlying prejudices and discomfort we deal with every day. Inequality isn't the point of Survivor. Healthy social debate is in NO WAY what they're looking for, here.
It's ratings.
I say a lot of the problem is that Survivor is still on the air.
Seriously, TV Industry...you've got NOTHING better to do than crap out another of these things? Yuck.
