    Roadside memorials

Why are you people still crying about putting a big wooden cross up along the road? That is the purpose of a cemetary where the headstone is, wouldn't you rather go to the place where he is or where he was killed? Do you think there are wooden crosses in Iraq where all the us soldiers were killed? NO! I am not saying I am not sorry for your loss but I feel the burial site is where the cross, headstone or whatever you want to put there will not be taken down, right? Why do you want to always be reminded where he died? It is not where he died that matters, I say you should do your grieving at the cemetary where he is, not where he died. My dad died in his chair he slept in, what should I do put a big cross there? You are not getting the logic of your responses. But like I said I do mourn for your loss as millions of others have. Angry   I think all of the roadside memorial posts should be deleted and started over.

    Re: Roadside memorials

I believe the question was "Should Roadside Memorials be allowed".

When it is NOT on private property and along our roadways YES! If people can't drive by them without being distracted and fearful of causing an accident, then seriously they shouldn't be on the road in the first place.

If it IS on private property, this depends on the home / property owner.

With this sad situation I believe both sides could have handled things very differently. Tragically a young man was killed at that spot and his family and friends acted without thought or consideration of the land owner, acting out through their love and grief of losing their loved one, as then the land owner reacted without thought or consideration to the family and friends of the young man who was killed. But it IS their property and they should have every right to approve or deny the placement of any items on their land. I feel bad for both families! I personally would allow a memorial on my property if I knew it would bring peace and comfort to the family of the deceased.

I and my family have a memorial where our loved one died, we pay taxes like everyone else, and have had nothing but positive responses. This forum was the first time I read anywhere that there are so many people out there who dislike seeing these memorials. I had the opportunity to read all the posts left on this forum before it was all deleted and wow did it get way out of hand!

My deepest condolences to the Labe family.
