A year and a half ago I lost a beloved dog of 12 years. He was 25 days from his 13th birthday. I have had dogs for 25 years and thought I was doing the right thing by taking them to the vet each year for their shots. My 12 year old dog had been having trouble getting up and down for about 2 years. Two years ago the vet claimed he had a weak heart and gave me some heart pills to put him on. In addition, he gave him the Parvo, Rabies, Distemper, Leptospirosis and another vaccine all in one shot. The heart pills didn't work at all after having him on them for about a month so I stopped giving them. Well in May of 06 I had the vet come out again and only asked for distemper and for him to worm my dog. Well he ends up talking me into giving the heart pills again, the worming, and the rabies vaccine. After leaving he gave me a receipt and on the receipt for the vaccines it had the word "Galaxy". Two mornings later my dog couldn't get up and his head flopped. We had to carry him in and out of the house to go potty and 7 days later he died. I believe he had a stroke. My husband looked up the word "Galaxy" on the internet and found out it's a combination of 4 different vaccines. He also found out there is something called "vaccinosis". It's where the vets knowingly give sickly and older dogs vaccines they don't need, just to make more money. All the vets know that dogs and cats don't need all vaccines every year. Yet for 25 years I thought I was doing the right thing when I'd receive my reminder notice in the mail from them. Pets are dying and it's because they're over vaccinated. Heck, this vet in Hershey that I used to go to used to give Kennel Cough. Not knowing exactly what it was for I should've asked. Come to find out it's if you're going to board your dog in a kennel if you go away. Owners need to stagger their pets shots from year to year. Never let the vet give the all in one shot. One shot at a time only!!!!!!!!! My dog had too much and he wasn't near on his deathbed. I blame the vet that came to my home. As far as I'm concerned he killed my dog. My new dog will not get his shots each year. I have a relative who years ago had her puppy vaccinated with everything under the sun, and that dog got so sick. Thankfully, after days of caring for this dog she was able to bring him back to health. Anyone that loves their pet, please, please don't let the vets vaccinate each year.
