    Mollys Place

Animals are an emotional issue that brings out the best and worst in people.

Molly’s Place has adopted out over 1200 dogs and 500 cats since it opened last year.  The majority of people are grateful and happy.  There are always a few for one reason or another that have to blame every problem they encounter on someone.  The pets at Molly’s Place are societies throw away pets.  Most come from rescues or owner surrender.  The most common problem with dogs and cats is over population.  It's hard to believe but some people haven't a clue how many animals are euthanized every year because there just aren't enough homes.  Before they can be adopted Molly’s Place pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and internal parasites, micro chipped and bathed. The cats are tested for feline leukemia. The rescue charges $150 for a kitten.  I called a local veterinarian to see what the charges would be for the same services, minus the FeLu teat, frontline, worming and microchip, and it was over $300.  Yet Molly’s Place is condemned for charging a fee.

There is a higher charge for pure bred dogs and cats. Rescue income means more animals can be helped.  People pass up the old, fat, homely mix breed dogs and cats for the purebred, or young cute ones.  But the pets that are passed over still need care until someone sees their value and adopts them. This fee helps care for them.

Since the background of most of the animals is unknown it is impossible to tell if an animal has come into contact with a virus if it is not showing symptoms.  People flock to puppies and kittens and often these animals are only in the rescue a few days until they are adopted. It has happened that an animal appearing perfectly healthy when it leaves will begin to show symptoms when it gets home. MP offers pet insurance that starts 24 hours after the adoption and covers $500 of unforeseen veterinary care. Yet people want to condemn MP for a few sick pets out of almost 2000 adopted.  What would have happened to them without MP? The owner of MP rescue works 6 days a week, 12 hour days, this is her life calling.

If you aren't part of the solution YOU are part of the problem.

    Re: Mollys Place

We too have adopted from Molly's place.  Our 1st dog we got,  Precious, was a dear dear little girl.  She was a mommy at an "infamous" puppy mill.  She was a very nervous little girl and it took her a long time to be friends with my hubby, who adored her.  She was so used to being caged that when we would be in the living room watching tv she would sit in one of the crates we had for our other dogs (door open)  We'd coax and coax her to come in and she finally she would.  We had her for 6 months and then as alot of puppy mill dogs do, she was diagnosed with liver cancer.  We had to put her to sleep, IT WAS SOOOOO HARD.  We told Molly's Place about her since we did give updates on her to keep in touch.  We were most kindly offered another dog when we were ready FREE.

We later came back and fell in love with another, Kricket.  She too was a mommy at the same puppy mill and was in bad shape.  When she was rescued she had only a few teeth and those had to be removed.  She has no teeth at all.  We decided to bring her into our home.  The 2nd night we had her she escaped thru the window between the air conditioner.  I still don't know how she fit.  We searched and searched.  We called Lori, from Molly's place and she came over at 10pm  to help look.  We weren't giving up till we found her.  It was Lori's voice she heard and was familiar with that brought her back.  She wasn't far and came running from hiding in nearby wooded area.  Since then she has not gotten out and has fallen in love with out daughter.  She sleeps with her in bed and has put on a few pounds from being spoiled with soft food and treats.   She loves stuffed animals and gathers them up all the time.  When we first saw Kricket at Molly's we also fell for a baby named Jake.   We wisk him up too and brought him home.  He was from a puppy mill and we were already his 3rd family and he wasn't even 3 months old yet.

Molly's Place Rescue is nothing but the best blessing to all animals.  Young, old, sick or healthy - if they need help,  they are there!

Love Molly's Place in Mechanisburg, PA.  we adopted two dogs - Cadbury & Amelia.  Molly's gives +100% quality care to all their animals.  we drove over 80 miles just to get our four legged family members.  Hi to all the employees/volunteers at Molly's.  Cadbury & Amelia says  woof woof.

Re: Mollys Place - not what they seem

Yes, they seem like wonderful people in a wonderful place but underneath the mask they are truly heartless, at least the management is. Do your research! There are at least 8 complaints filled against them with the Better Business Bureau, complaints filled with the attorney general, and (I believe it was competitor) there is a brief news story about their ill practices. The concept of saving animals from kill shelters is beautiful but not when the purpose is rotten and the people are too.

Re: Mollys Place - not what they seem

I am so glad that there is somebody else out there that truly saw what goes on behind closed doors at the "wonderful" Molly's Place.  The people who walk into Molly's do get the comfortable feel because everybody is trained to be helpful and courteous and most of them are in love with animals which makes a big difference.  The volunteers that come in are there to help animals that need to be helped and they do truly care.  As far as the "owner" goes, well that's another story....

I worked for Molly's Place for a little over a year and what I experienced working there just broke my heart and caused such sadness in my life.  To see the way somebody took a woman's estate who planned on having a "simple" no kill shelter and turned it into a "money drive" was beyond me.  Her plan was not to charge several hundred dollars for a puppy or kitten but to find good, safe and caring homes for these lost little ones.  Unfortunately, little did she know that the lady she was leaving her estate with was all about money and greed

Molly's Place wants you to believe that they have to pay astronomically for supplies and veterinarian costs but what they do not tell you is almost "everything" is donated to the shelter and the vets that they use are relatives and only charge $20 per cat to spay/neuter.  So why do they charge this outrageous fee for a homeless animal?  The collars, leashes, shampoo, towels, food, toys and several other things are donated on a continuous basis.

One day they performed surgery on a Pit Bull and when they brought the dog out of surgery she was still bleeding.  We brought it to the "owner's" attention but she was "too busy" to take a look at her.  My friend and I covered her up and tried to help her but we were not vets so we didn't honestly know what to do for her.  By the time the "owner" came back to look at her she had bled to death.  This is a shelter to help animals and here I had to stand and watch a dog bleed out???  How is that helping?

The last straw for me was when I needed something out of the vets room and I was unaware of the fact that they were performing surgery at that time.  When I walked in the room the dog was on the table screaming in pain because she woke up during surgery because they do not give enough to the dogs to keep them asleep through the process - supposedly the anesthesia costs too much??  So what are people paying all this money for?

People I am a die hard animal lover and I have worked with animals for over 20 years so my suggestion to everybody is Please look thoroughly into these places before adopting your pets because what should be a happy occassion can turn into disaster...

    Re: Mollys Place

Being in rescue myself, I admire the work that Molly's does.  However, I'm sorry to say that I used to work for a vet and each and every animal that would come from Molly's Place had health issues of one sort or another - from giardia to parvovirus.  These are highly contagious diseases and not easily stopped without proper disinfection of the building.  We would call and report to them our findings - yet dog after dog continued to come in with these illnesses.  The majority of these you just don't hear about because they are not that serious (just diarrhea and maybe vomiting) but serious enough to the owner who has to shell out $150+ to take care of their brand new dog's illness.  One dog died from parvo and it happened 12 hours after the 24 hour guarantee so the new owners were stuck with the very large bill they incurred from trying to save that dog...they tried to get the money back and were unsuccessful...

I think it is fantastic that they are there to help these unwanteds find their new forever homes.  THey just need to be sure and follow proper procedures to keep these animals safer from disease...

Re: Mollys Place - not what they seem

You clearly have never worked at Molly's Place, because you have no idea what you are talking about and the incidents which you described NEVER HAPPENED.  FYI, Molly's Place spends thousands of dollars on supplies and medical expenses.  I feel sorry for you that you have nothing better to do other than to make up outrageous lies about a group who it completely dedicated to finding homes for animals that would have no chance if it wasn't for Molly's Place.  Molly's Place has proudly found homes for over 7,000 animals and every one of those pets has been responsibly spayed and neutered prior to adoption.  How many animals have you helped and what are you doing to make a difference?

    Re: Mollys Place

Working with in the animal rescue venue as you say you do I'm certain that you realize that "no good deed goes unpunished". This is true with EVERY animal group that I have worked with for over 30 year. Regardless of the good that we try to do people will complain. It is human nature to want perfection.

Most of the animals that come to Molly's Place would have been euthanized. Cute puppies, beautiful adults, all with their own merits and with the right to a good secure home. Look at our website to see how over 6,000 animals have been RESCUED and PLACED within a few years. Those people are happy and the animals are saved.

Do the animals sometimes come to us with parasites and viruses? Yes. Every precaution is taken to prevent this but YES it does happen. These are living beings coming from sometimes the worst conditions.  I have worked for several veterinarians in several states over my career and all pets from where ever the sourse ( breeders, pet shops, shelters) EACH come with their own issues.

30 days of free pet insurance is included with each adoption. But people want more than insurance they want perfection and it does not exist.

Re: Mollys Place - not what they seem

If you worked for Molly's than you know who I am. The veterinarians that offer low cost spay/neuter are NOT relatives of the owner but rather MY father and uncle, retired veterinarians whom practiced quality veterinary medicine for 50+ years. The allegations that you make concerning anesthesia are outright lies! SHAME ON YOU!

As far as the owner only in it for money. Her pay checks aren't even cashed some weeks because not enough money has come in. Did you EVER not recieve a pay check? I think not.

Newsaper and SOME food are donated.                                                      Surgical supplies, veternary fees, medications, SALARIES (yours included), trash bags, litter, cat pans, cleaning supplies, new floor cleaning machines, bowls, dog beds, cat pillows and shams, shampoo, toys, detergent, new washer and dryers, gas, inspection, maintenance and insurance for the van used to transport said supplies are not donated. Not to mention rent, trash and utilities expenses. It is COSTLY.

You have presented a malicious and deceitful statement which reveals your nature.

    Re: Mollys Place

I have adoped a 7 week old beagle mix from Mollys Place.  He is very cute and sweet.  I took him to the vet 8 days after I adopted him.  He is very healthy according to the vet.  The only thing he had was a hook warm parisite.  They gave him medicine and he was fine.  There was so many animals to pick from and you just want to take them all home.  The workers there are very nice and seem to truly care about the animals that they care for.  They are very helpful in helping you find a pet that fits your lifestyle.  I was very pleased and would recommend anyone looking for a pet to add to your family to visit Mollys Place.  I don't think you will be disappointed.  I've seen some negative feed back on them, but I can only go by my experience.  I think that you can find a healthy pet here that you can love for years.
