    Rifle Raffle

Sounds to me that every single parent in Perry/Juniata needs to focus on something else that is important. How about education? Sports isn't everything and sports will not pay for their future in the world. Not that I have a problem with the Rifle raffle, however the Association needs to ask their selves this question. "Is it necessary to raffle off a Rifle, or should we only raffle off the ATV?"
Yes, this is America and we do have the right to bare firearms, however how many deaths/shootings involve children in the US? Why add to it?  If someone in Perry/Juniata County REALLY needs a Riffle to kill an innocent animal let them buy it with their own money and on their own time. Another question for the Association... Where did you receive the funds to purchase the 31 Rifles you're raffling off?

In response to another parents statement regarding keeping the kids out of trouble. That's your job as a parent NOT the a football organization.

P.S. After reading some of the replies it's obvious there is a GREATER need to focus on Education in your area.

How many professional athletes will tell you that being involved in a sports program was their saving grace? I have heard it time and again. Perhaps you are unaware of the outstanding scholarships offered to children who excel at sports. How many people would never receive a college education if not for this.

I believe the majority of tragic shooting deaths or injuries involving children are due to negligence/lack of supervision.

Our household is non-hunting and in the minority where we live. However, we have come to terms with the fact that hunting and gun ownership is prevalent where we live. We agree to disagree and choose to seek compromise or walk away when necessary.

You might want to check for stats on the DCNR's website to see if they have any related to how many deer are killed by vehicles every year. Should we stop driving?

I wholeheartedly agree that it is the responsibility of parents to keep their children out of trouble. That's why we are thankful for this program because it helps us do just that. This is not day care where we drop off and pick up. It is a commitment on both the part of the parent and the child. Most parents stay for all of the 2 hr. practice 4 nights a week. Most parents make time to show up for extra practices if necessary, scrimmages, games (both home and away)

Finally, before you criticize other posts, you might want to consult your computer's grammar and spellcheck feature.

    Re: Rifle Raffle

Are you kidding??? Please tell me you have to be.  I am the mother of a Newport Buffs football player and a Newport Buffs Cheerleader.  I am proud to be a parent of children involved in such a great organization.  You can at any given time hear a joke about Perry County and the residents here but obviously you have never been here if you believe it.  It is a beautiful place to raise your children and the fact that someone who does not live in the area has the audacity to post something that is attacking the character of the children and parents within this community infuriates me!  My daughter is a minority here and within the school and the football organization she has never been treated any differently then any one else!  I was sitting at a scrimmage yesterday and one of the cheerleading coaches was behind me when my daughter walked past she leaned over to her friend and said how cute my daughter is.  I guess she did not realize that I was sitting there. We have been faced with racism in other counties so my heart melted at the comment.  So may be before putting yourself out there and making yourself look like you are the uneducated one. You should check the statistics in our area? This is coming from a single mother who is obtaining her Bachelors degree and going to Law School... Uneducated? Perhaps you should stick to what you do best because you obviously have NO idea what you are talking about when you speak about our football organization and our county!
