Today, Friday 4-6-07, a federal judge issued an injunction against Vonage, the VoIP [voice over Internet protocol] phone company, stopping them from signing up new customers, after they were found guilty of infringing Verizon patents on the technology. It takes effect next Friday to allow Vonage to seek an emergency stay from an appeals court.
Unless the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit [CAFC] grants an emergency stay of this injunction against new Vonage customers within the next week, it's all over for Vonage. If I were a Vonage customer, or knew one, I'd advise switching VoIP providers ASAP. This is exactly what the analysts and lawyers predicted will happen. What do you know that they don't?
