I stand corrected. He wasn't driving.

Why? Because it is not their God given right to do whatever they please,
wherever they please. They would be doing more honor to this boy by
staying out of a public fray. It's disgusting to read some of what this
    God loving family has written.

    Mamol,

I think that's the biggie here.  By allowing WHP to turn this into a media even to provide 90 seconds of fill on a broadcast(sorry if there isn't any actual news around here,) and by allowing children with no net ettiquite or spelling ability to speak for them, the family has cheapened the memory of this boy.

And that's too bad, this kid obviously touched alot of lives.

    One other thing.

Someone on the other thread came up with what I think to be the perfect compromise here.  Plant a tree on the site.  Perhaps mark it with a small engraved stone at the base(they are expensive, but hell, I'd kick in a few bucks if the family needed it)

A tree will grow and live and provide beauty and enjoyment.  Much like this young man would have if he weren't taken tragically.

Anything beyond that is self serving headline grabbing.

I asked on the previous page...is this boy or his ashes buried where the cross was?  He does not have a grave?

I am part of the family and everyone else has a memorial, why shouldn't michael.  I think you are disgusting for writing such hateful things.  Let the family alone in there time of grief.  How would you feel if somthing like this happend to you?  Would you want people calling you disgusting?

    Re: Roadside Memorials

No, that was the rambling of some kid whose posts made no sense.

This is simply a case of a family wanting to join the hoards of people who mark trafic fatalities with RMs, and somone not wanting it nearby.

Search WHP's web page and read the story.  Its quite tragic, a real no win situation.  The guy who lives there and doesn't want to see the RM was the first person to respond to the wreck, and is understandably distraught over what he saw.  I wouldn't want to be reminded of it either.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS AT ALL!!  I WOULD THINK A CROSS WOULD BRING COMFORT TO EVERYONE INCLUDEING THE LAND OWNER.

That is what they should be doing.
    Grieving.
Alone or with their family and friends.
Not inflicting it or imposing on others.
I have been on both sides of tragedy.
Know where to draw the line.
The ramblings are what is disgusting
and I don't think the boy would want this either.

A 7 foot cross that could very well CAUSE another accident?
    Yes. A real comfort.

    Re: Roadside Memorials

EVERYONE GRIFS DIFFERENT,  MAYBE YOU WOULDN'T DO SOMTHING LIKE THIS BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT OTHER PEOPLE WOULD NOT.   NO, THE RAMBLING ARE NOT DISGUSTING, I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELF FOR WRITEING SUCH A THING AND HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT THE BOY WOULD THINK?  I THINK THAT HE WOULD WANT HIS FAMILY TO HAVE PEACE WITH THIS AND TO LIVE THERE LIFES AND FOR THEM TO DO THAT, THEY NEED TO PUT THAT CROSS UP.  I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU OR ANYONE ELSE HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS I WOULD THINK THAT A CROSS WOULD BRING COMFORT TO EVERYONE.

    Re: Roadside Memorials

A 7 foot cross WOULD bring me comfort.
    In a church
    In a cathedral
    At a cemetery
Not on the side of a public road.
    Think woman.  And use spellcheck.

    Re: Roadside Memorials

FIRST OF ALL I AM NOT A MAN !!  MAYBE IT WOULD NOT BRING YOU COMFORT,  BUT IT DOES FOR ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE EXSPECIALLY THE FAMILY.  IF THEY WANT TO PUT UP A 7 FOOT CROSS AND LET THEM !!

According to the story, the landowner does not wish to see the RM because he is too distraught over the sight he saw.  He was the first on the scene, and has the indellible image of the wreck plastered in his mind.  I am sure that by now he is wishing he had just called 911 and stayed inside.

That is the legacy of this,  the simple fact is that the next kid to crash on that road(I pray it does not happen)  will die unattended waiting for paid first responders to arrive.

I know that after reading this and hearing this debate, one truth is evident.  The memorial on the site where this boy died is more important than the well being of the heroic man that put himself in harms way to try to help.  That says alot. None of what it says is good.

    Re: Roadside Memorials

I NEVER SAID IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT.  BUT IF THAT HAPPEND TO SOMEONE ON MY LAND, I WOULD GLADLY LET THEM PUT UP A CROSS AND HAVE NO PROBLEM DOING THAT.  YES I AM GLAD THE MAN CAME DOWN TO TRY TO HELP, BUT HOW DO YOU THINK THE FAMILY FEELS?  IF THIS IS WHAT IS GOING TO GIVE THEM PEACE WELL THEN LET IT BE!

    Re: Roadside Memorials

    You just did.

"yes I am glad the man came down to help, but how do you think the family feels?"

That would be implying that the family's "Right" to post an eyesore is greater than the landowners "right" to not be driven out of his mind by it when HE CAME TO HELP THIS KID!

"If this is what is going to give them peace then let it be."

No, I won't not when it causes this much of a problem to someone who is only being troubled by it because he tried to do the right thing.

People need to stop this "Monkey see Monkey do" crap.  That is all this is, and it was in your frist post that you said it.

"Other people have them, why not Mikey."  Your words.

You do not have some right to inflict your pain on the unwilling.
