    Humane Society

I can't believe that the police have nothing better to do than take a man's dog away.  He may not have known how to take care of him in the best way, but he loves him and could be taught.  Give me a break!  There are so many animals out there who no one wants, they are abused, etc. and you are going to take a dog from a man who just needs to understand that loving the dog also means knowing how to care for it.  I truly pray for our country if this is the mentality of the bureaucracy.

    Re: Humane Society

It wasn't the Police that provoked this matter.  I spoke with them directly and on the court document papers it was the Humane Society Officer who approached the car and took the dog out and then contacted the police.

.  You couldn't have said it any better ShariDunn.

There are many people who just plainly straight out, don't Want their Pets. . But this was not the case with Mr Thomas and his companion dog.

The Humane Society's  is an  animal protection organization which strives to prevent cruelty against animals and helps to preserve the human-animal bond.  That is their Philosophy.

The Humane Society has enough animals they can't get rid of.    Shelters are Packed with animals sitting in cement floor cages without human companionship

If they really want to help Owners and their pets., they should give mandatory classes to teach people how to care for their pets.  But , ,  They won't make any money doing it that way.

Even some mothers don't know how to care for their infants and children properly, but yet love them  dearly..

. The veterinary profession and others who care for animals have long acknowledged the importance of the human-animal bond and emotional attachments between pets and their owners

.  Hopefully the Humane Society will read  your post.

    Re: Humane Society

The Humane Society has so many animals because people don't know how to take care of them.  I'm glad there are police and rescues around to save animals, regardless of  already having too many.

I consider the conditions the dog was found in to be abuse.  The only abuse isn't hitting an animal.  There was so much trash in the car, the dog could have eaten something that would have made him sick and in need of a vet.

I don't know if you own a dog or not, but they do get into things.  I've saw a story where a dog had eaten a knife, and a girl told me the story of her dog eating an extension cord.  In both cases, the dogs had to be operated on to save their lives.

I believe in abuse cases, for animals and children, we should error on the side of caution, not wait until a death.

    Re: Humane Society

“To fully recognize this new relationship between humans and animals, laws must change accordingly. Converting “owner” to “guardian,” however, is more than semantics. It raises many important questions regarding society’s duty of care toward and use of animals. For example, can we continue to use animals in medical research and for human consumption and still consider ourselves their guardians? These practices certainly are not in the animals’ best interests, nor do they respect them as separate and unique entities capable of experiencing pain, fear and suffering. What, then, is our duty of care toward animals whom we exploit for human interests?”

Read the bold above, as a dog, the idea that the ASPCA wants to make cows illegal to eat makes me afraid for my life. Although humans can live as healthy vegans, we dogs are carnivores.

    Re: Humane Society

What this all amounts to is a clear problem in America. Dog owner's are being criminalized, violated and ignored on a daily basis. Meanwhile, "Humane organizations" are overstepping their bounds (legally speaking) and supplying bogus information to law enforcements agencies in exchange for media coverage which results in donations. Directly resulting from these acts of pure greed are the deaths of innocent animals, the ruined lives of innocent dog lovers and the wasted taxpayer money which is used to arrest these people, harass these people and then lose in court to these people.
