Obviously you work at this facility.  Well lets hope you  won't allow your dogs to live in that condition. Lets also hope that you won't end up indigent, old and no place to go and I hope you will have enough of your mind to know better.   Lets hope that you will love your animals the same way he loves his dog and someone won't come to you and threaten you into signing over your dog. And lets also hope that if someone does do this to you, the same things that were done to this poor old man, that you will also not be allowed to know whats happening to him and that you won't be able to see him. Lets hope for this.  Lets really hope that you don't lose your job and find yourself on the streets. Lets hope that you don;t lose the only friend that you have.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

WOW razzbeary . Such anger!  Obviously you must work there.  The HUMANE SOCIETY is in business not only to help animals but also their owners. Would it have hurt you people to have helped this poor old man and told him how his only friend was doing? Instead of being like a gestapo to try being human and trying to put yourselves into his place and FEEL how he felt? About him being old and probably afraid because he has memory problems? And feeling all alone? Wondering why, after having the jobs he's had and the financial freedom he had at one time,  to find yourself old and disoriented and no one there to help? I hope if this happens to you will have someone around that can help you.

The people in this facility need to be trained in courtesy. They need to be trained to help all animals. which they dont'.  This man deserves respect and you disrespected him and treated him like poo.  You people should be ashamed. I hope this doesn't happen to one of your loved ones.

He has a place to live and can take his dog with him. Give him back his dog.

I DO NOT WORK AT THE HUMANE SOCIETY!

My anger is with people who say they love animals, but don't think this dog should be given a chance at having an actual home.

I give up with you people, obviously your not worth my time.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

Your responses made me so mad.  I just can't believe the way you think.  I really don't work at the Humane Society, but do volunteer with various rescue organizations.

The reason I'm so angry, I rescued a 2 year old cocker spaniel that was neglected my his owners.  He had infected eyes and matted fur.  I look at him and think about what kind of life he would of had if I hadn't rescued him.

I disagree with you about the "job" of the Humane Society and rescue organizations.  Their first responsibility is to the animals, not the owners.  Someone has to speak for the animals, and believe me when I say, the employees at the Humane Society and other rescues, do not get paid large sums of money.  They do it because of their love for the animals.  If you doubt this, try spending some time with rescued animals, it not an easy job to do.

I've participated in transporting dogs from neglectful situations to rescues and/or new homes.  Volunteers spend hours and their own money trying to give animals better homes.

Please, for a change, think about Baron.  He deserves a better life than to live in a car, and so does Mr. Thomas.  I would like to see the person who takes in Mr. Thomas, and gives him a permanent home, to rescue Baron, give him the home he deserves and then Mr. Thomas would have access to Baron.  Dogs deserve better than living in the filth of that car.

As for my understanding Mr. Thomas, my sister and nephew were homeless for awhile.  I took them in along with their 2 dogs and 2 cats.  They moved out for awhile, but I kept the animals, because I believed they deserved a "normal" home and not living in a car or going from home to home, as my sister tried to get her life together.  And yes, for awhile she lived in her car.  She wanted to move back to Maryland, and until she could find a friend to take her in, she lived in her car.  Shortly after that she was diagnosed with breat cancer and died within 2 years.  I think I have a pretty good idea of what Mr. Thomas was going through, and I still think Baron shouldn't live in his car with him.

Please don't think I'm trying to give you a line of goods.  I'm just trying to let you know where I'm coming from.  Everything in this email is the truth.  I didn't appreciate your judgement of me, without knowing my story.

If you're wondering how I get my information, I get from the Patriot News, PennLive, and other volunteers involved in rescueing animals.  If you haven't read the articles in the Patriot or really read the information on PennLive, you should check it out.

I apologize for my previous email, I just feel like crying when I think of Baron in that car and wish I could get you to understand things from the other side.  You say you have dogs, think about them in a car full of trash and not being able to lay down without being in their own poop.  If that doesn't tug at your heart, I really don't know what will.  After this, I really give up.  You aren't going to change your mind and I'm not going to change mine.

YOU SEEM TO HAVE NOTHING BETTER THAN TO FIND FAULT WITH THIS MAN .DID YOU FORGET THAT HE SERVED TO SAVE YOUR LIFE AND FREEDOM.HE HAS FELT ALOT OF PAIN IN HIS LIFE.ALOT OF LOSSES.SO WHY NOT KEEP YOUR IGNORANCE TO A MINIUM. I HAVE BEEN TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE SMELL IS OUTRAGIOUS,DOGS BARKING OUT OF CONTROLAND WALKING IN THEIR OWN *** ,SO FOR YOU TO CLAIM HIM UNFIT AND TO SAY THAT YOU WOULD SEE YOUR NIECE AND NEPHEW HOMELESS UNSTEAD OF THEIR DOG SPEAKS SOUNDLY OF YOUR IGNORANCE.PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD KEEP THEIR OPINION TO THEMSELVES.Stick out tongue

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

I never said he was unfit.  The conditions he was living in (his car) is not fit for a dog.

And for your information, I served 6 years in the Army, so don't lecture me about service members!  Have you served?

Everyone has had pain in their lives.  If you haven't, then your lucky.  I've lost every member of my immediate family, including a sister at at 44.  Most people find a way to carry on their lives.  There's more to Mr. Thomas' story.

I'd like to know where his friends and family have been.

Also, I didn't say I wanted to see my sister and nephew homeless.  I said I would allow their dogs to be homeless.  My sister was 42 and my nephew was 26, old enough to take care of themselves.  My sister made the decision to sleep in her car, instead of living in PA and my nephew formed friendships and moved in with roommates.

I didn't call you ignorant for your views, so I think you should look in the mirror!

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

I went back over my posts and don't believe I personally attacked anybody.  All I'm doing is trying to show a different point of view.

I even opened up, with personal information, to let people understand where I was coming from.

I don't know why you think it's OK to personally attack me, but I served in the Army to ensure you have that right.  Don't I deserve to have an opinion, or only if I agree with you?

I realized I made a typo in my original response, I didn't want my family to be homeless, but I wouldn't allow their animals to live in a car.  If my sister made the decision to sleep in her car, that was her decision.  My home was always open to her, but she didn't want to live in PA.

Sometimes, people make decisions we don't understand, but it's their decision.  As long as they are adults, they have the right to live however they want.  Animals don't have the chance to make that decision for themselves.  They love us unconditionally, no matter what we do to them.

I believe in free speech, whether or not you agree with me.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

I, being a dog, like to feel secure in my living situation. Ownership tells me that my person "owns" me and by law, under the constitution, has rights to me. This means that no government has legal right to take me away, upsetting my living arrangement without proof that my owner has broken a law.

That being said, many times BSL does take us dogs from our owners. But, this is illegal and violates our human's rights under the 4th, 5th and 14th amendments of the United States Constitution. In particular, the 14th Amendment states that the government shall not deprive citizens of property without due process.
