Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

I believe that this is tragic, that this man has taken care of his animal all these years and then some cop has nothing else to do but take this mans dog, ie. catch speeders, robbers, etc.  They need to give him his dog back now.

I know this man and his dog and he always took good care of his dog.  Shame on the Humane Society and the Police Officer for kicking a man when he is down.  Miles loves his dog.  Have a heart and give him his dog back.  I will think twice before donating to the Humane Society.  Our prayers are with Miles and Baron.

This man should have his dog back.   I think a petition should be started, then maybe the people involved would see that this was wrong!  I use to help the Humane Society when I could, but no more.  They could at least let Miles spend time with Baron.  Imagine how Baron feels.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

For years Mr. Thomas was a community-minded citizen.  Then through no fault of his own, he found himself in a position of being homeless.  Even in those dire straits, he took care of his only friend, his beloved dog, Baron.  According to the reported facts, on a day where temperatures were in the 70's, he left Baron in his car with the windows down so he could get something to eat.  Then the Middletown Police Department was unwilling to get to the bottom of a situation.  Where's the compassion when a reportedly homeless man, living out of his car with his canine companion, can't even leave the car, parked legally, to get something to eat???  And I'd bet he was bringing a doggie bag back for his friend.  There are times when the letter of the law should not be followed but the circumstances weighed with compassion and even assistance.  What good is served by removing the dog from his "human".  Mr. Thomas has many health issues which are now further challenged by all of the stress.  And poor Baron is in strange, unloving, uncaring conditions wondering what he did to deserve his situation.

When Ms. Kaunas assumed duties as Executive Director of the Humane Society I had high hopes for a failing organization.  In fact, I began for the first time to support them.  Now I rescind any and all future support and will continue to support those animal organizations who are operated with warmth and compassion.  Shame, shame on you, Middletown Police Department and Harrisburg Humane Society.

I hope everyone will check out the article on PennLive.  It includes pictures of the condition of the car the dog was found in.

Please check out this site, before you judge the Human Society or Middletown Police.  I will be an eye opener, if you can stand to look at the pictures!

Despite the photos, they should be reunited now that Mr. Thomas has a stable, clean home.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

It is very obvious that this man cares about his dog and that the dog was not being abused.  It makes sense to me that the dog may have soiled the car once all the excitment started.  I have been around dogs who have been so scared, stressed and anxious over a situation where they just begin to lose their bowels.  What this dog was going through I'm sure was enough for any animal to lose it.  You have to remember that only pictures will be shown that help with the case that is being argued.  This man has nothing in this world any more but this dog and the dog has only him.  I'm sure the dog would much rather be with him then sitting in a cage alone and scared.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

It is so obvious that this dog is loved by this sweet man who has experienced so much tragedy in his life. To take the only thing he has left that he truly cares about away from him is inhumane in our opinion. What did this man really did wrong? Was he not living in the same conditions as the dog? It seems like law enforcement agencies are more concerned about the dogs well being than they are this old man. We firmly believe that this obviously well taken care of dog was not in any immediate danger. How would you feel if the only thing you had left that truly made you happy was taken away from you?

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

Just because the man's dog, dirtied in the car, they're going to penalize this man?

How many people living in their homes , have dogs that dirty inside their homes?

I've seen at the Humane Society, dogs dirtying in their cages.  Does this give them the right to turn this case into Abuse or Neglect?

Are sure he is going to remain in that home?  I heard it is a friend of his lawyer.  Once the publicity ends, will the lawyer care what happens to Mr. Thomas or his dog?

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

It was not just that the dog dirtied in the car, it was a lot of mess, which makes me ask if  Mr Thomas made sure his dog went for walks and had an opportunity to "stretch" his legs.  There are all types of abuse, not just hitting an animal.

I'd never allow my dogs to live in conditions like that.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

I believe Mr. Thomas loves his dog, but would you feel different if it was a child living in a car in that condition?  It takes more than love to care for an animal.

I feel bad for Mr. Thomas, but where was everyone when he was going through his hard times?  Now everyone feels sorry for him, but my concern is for his dog.

I've had family members end up homeless, and I took them in along with their dogs.  At one time I had four dogs living with me, along with a sister and nephew.  I would rather see my sister and nephew homeless than their dogs.  Animals need help caring for themselves and didn't ask to be in these conditions.  Animals can't go out and get a job to take care of themselves!

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

This is coming from a pet owner. I have a dog, several cats, a bird ,rats and a guinea pig. I live in a house and my animals make more of a mess than my 4 children. I know how hard it is to keep a dog from destroying my house I couldn't imagine trying to in a car . But I hope for this poor mans sake and my own he gets his dog back. because if I would ever become homeless I would be devestated if anyone tried to take any of my animals they are just as precious to me as my children. Just think about it you are taking this mans child from him , so he didnt get the mess cleaned up in a timely fashion but i asume the man doesn't like living in this condition but this is what hes got . Dont make it any harder. Give him his dog back that may be his reason for living and your tryin to take it from him. Have a heart consider your self in his position then make your decision.

Re: Humane Society-Give the Man his dog back!

This dog looked quite happy, healthy and brushed to me. So what if there was dirt marks on the seat (which looks liked the dog was being walked), and trash in the car, how many people really keep their car totally spotless. I have a  2 yr old Saint, and last November Adopted from the Humane Society, a  2 yr old mixed Pit that weighed only 37 lbs.You could see every bone on his body, and now is 78 lbs. It took a long time to stop him from being afraid of everything, and I DO MEAN EVERYTHING.  He is the sweetest baby ever. It is apparent this dog means the world to this man and vise versa. All he did was take the dog with him to get something to eat. It wasn`t egg frying hot outside. I know how a dog takes to a person. Just ask the dog, if he/she jumps for joy at the sight of the owner, he/she is loved. If it shys away, then it it abused.

The picture you're talking about was taken at the Humane Society, after he was washed and brushed, no wonder he looks happy, he's not caked in poop!
