PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is one of the most common, life-threatening genetic diseases, striking 600,000 people in the United States and 12.5 million people worldwide. PKD causes cysts to form on the kidneys, limiting their ability to filter toxins from the blood. Over 50% of those with PKD will develop kidney failure. Dialysis and transplantation are the only treatments for kidney failure. There is no cure for PKD. The PKD Foundation, headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, leads the fight against polycystic kidney disease through research funding and patient education. For more information, visit www.pkdcure.org or call 1-800-PKD-CURE.
Volunteers are needed to help with planning/holding the South Central PA Walk for PKD – a major PKD Foundation fundraising and awareness event. The Walk for PKD will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Milton Hershey School. For information about the South Central PA Walk for PKD, contact SouthCentralPAWalk@pkdcure.org.
