FINS: The Rise and Fall of the Tail Fin in American Automotive Design
The origin of the first American automotive fin is open for debate. Some say it began with Harley Earl’s 1950 LE SABRE show car. Others look back to Earl’s 1948 Cadillac as the first sign of what would become the design element that defined the American car of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. This exhibition will showcase the FIN in all of its forms, from mild to wild.
