Christian's Corner

As if ONE husband wasn't enough

I have 3 husbands...

Now before you go calling Ed Marsico on me...read on.

I am lucky to have found my soul mate and married him. Paradise The other 2 are my "work husbands" Shane Schillaci and Steve Knight.  "Work Husband" is a phrase I heard on the CBS sitcom "King of Queens".  The character "Carrie", refers to one of her co-anchors who she spends at least 8 hours of the day with, her "work husband".  And, I can relate. Shane and Steve are the two men I spend the most time with besides my husband, Jeremy.  I cry with them when something happens to their sons or their pets, I laugh with them (fortunately more often than I cry) during happy times and I rely on their "male perspective" when I don't understand what's going on in my "real" husband's head.  I'm so fortunate that my co-anchors and I are cut from the same cloth.  The "3 S's" or "s-squared" as many of our viewers call us all have kids. The "boys" have boys and the "girl" has girls.  We even take vacation at the same time - -not knowing that we all applied for the same week off.  I adore their kids and their wives - and I know my family holds a special place in their hearts.

I'm sure Letitia says the same about Dono and Kelly the same about Paul, etc... heck these are the people we spend the most time with outside of our families...they are our "work families" and they are here to lend a shoulder, an ear, a foot in the behind if we get too big for our britches, etc.

So even if "men are from mars..." at least I know MY man is in good company.

Here, here!!  There's something about this business.  We all just share too much!!

When I was on the am shift for over a year, I worked with the same photographer (the great Jim Stanton - or as I like to call him, "Jimmy") every single day.

When you're stuck in a live truck with the same person 8 hours a day, five days a week, for 18 months...it's scary how much that person has on you.  By the way, Jim - have I told you lately how great you look?

Anyhow, I know how you feel Sherry... I feel like my co-workers are my brothers and sisters.  Sometimes we're silly and stupid, sometimes we argue - but in the end, we've got each other's backs.  If anyone from the other "families" in the market pick on one of our bro's or sis's?...Lookout!!!

You're so right, Sherry. We do spend more time with our "extended" family and when you're sitting next to your "other" husband(s), you better like 'em.
To that end: In Jersey, my co-anchor and I were very close. In fact we're still very good friends. We went to church every Sunday's together, then we'd meet my husband at a local eatery for breakfast. People at the church thought we were married! Now, THAT'S great chemistry which we had on air and off.

And I laugh to this day about what my husband said when I accepted this job... sitting with Mr. Russell and Mr. Donovan...
My husband said, "So, you'll be two TOMin' me?".
Every night, dah-link, every night  ;-)

Sherry,
I have heard of the "work spouse" theory before and I recently brought it up in a communication class. Much to the chagrin of the instructor who is a devoutly religious man and takes matrimony very seriously. Once I explained the relationships are strictly platonic and found a few articles on the internet for support, he was more receptive. In fact the young lady who taught with him understood right away and started pointing out things about the two of them that made them work spouses. I must confess, I have a work spouse too and we have worked together for about seven or eight years.

Personality wise, we compliment each other very well, I have a tendency to shoot from the hip as it were and tell people how I feel, she on the other hand is a feeler and tries to hide what she really means. We proof each others e-mails and consult with each other before making important calls to insure we aren't going over the line or not being assertive enough.

It's  actually very healthy and I feel lucky too have someone like her in my corner.

Thanks for the great blog,
Mike
