Paterno on President Ford

After seeing this quote from Joe Paterno's end of season press conference, I would love to see the Paternos' Christmas/Holiday card list.

Apparently, Paterno knew Mr. Ford pretty well:

"Gerald Ford was a wonderful guy and a good friend, actually. He was a friend, not just the President of the United States. He had me to the White House a couple of times.

We had lunch in State College at the Corner Room one day. We sat down and were talking a little bit and he started eating with his left hand. He was Vice President at the time and I said, "You know Mr. Vice President, I thought you were right-handed." I had seen him play golf. "I thought you swung right-handed." He said, "You saw me playing golf, you are very charitable." He said, "When I sit down, I am left-handed and when I stand up I am right-handed." That is what I am. I eat and write left-handed and do everything else right-handed. So the minute I stand up I am right-handed and when I sit down, I am left-handed. I have made that quote several times.

He and I stayed in touch. In fact, when (John) Cappelletti was the Heisman Trophy winner, he spoke at the banquet. Cappy was, at that time, talking about getting into the Secret Service. He sat down with Cappy and explained what they do and the whole bit.

He was really genuinely a good guy. I have been around. In fact, actually, with all of the presidents you mentioned, except for Jimmy Carter, I have been in the White House with all of them."
