Unfortunately, the subdivision I tried to cut through didn't go through to the road I was hoping to connect with.

There wasn't any traffic in the subdivision, so while I was stopped at a stop sign, I whipped out a map to check out my options. Before I had figured out my path, I heard "HONK". I waved my apology to the driver and kept going. Then, when I got to the next stop sign, I was waiting to make a left turn. The other driver pulled into the right lane and rolled down his window. My windows were already down, so I prepared to get a verbal lashing about bad driving. Instead, the driver asked where I was trying to get to. I told him and he said "Oh you don't want to go that way, there's a ton of traffic. Follow Me." So I did, and he drove to through some winding back streets until we got to a major road and I knew where I was going.

So, I'd like to say a Big Thank You to the man in the green mini-van!

A recent conversation with one of our producers, Jack, inspired this blog. We were discussing my story on the Susquehanna Service Dogs. I'll be following their newest litter as they go from puppies to a trained service dog helping someone with a disability. Of course the adorable puppies got their fair share of "oh they are so cute" and "I want one" comments. Jack said he has always wanted a dog but couldn't bear losing it. I asked if he had a traumatic loss of a pet as a child and he said no. So, I tried to tell him that the time with a dog makes the eventual loss worthwhile, but he wasn't buying it.

There's the Alfred Lord Tennyson saying "It's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all"... But some people say if you believe that, you've never had your heart broken. So who's right? As someone who has loved, lost, and had their heart broken, I still side with Alfred. What do you think?

As a University of Michigan graduate, I have my fair share of Wolverine tee-shirts and sweatshirts. I've also got a few Detroit Tigers and Red Wings hats. I haven't worn any of these items without someone commenting on the fact that I am now in Penn State/Steelers/Ravens/Pirates/Flyers (and so on) territory. For the most part, I've simply gotten some good natured ribbing. Other people, namely a strangely intense man at the grocery store, have taken it a bit further. He told me I should stop wearing them, but that's not going to happen. What kind of fan gives up lifelong loyalty to a team simply because of distance? Penn State is a great school and I won't root against them (except when they are playing UM of course) but the devotion to local sports sure makes me glad I didn't move to Buckeye territory.
