A recent conversation with one of our producers, Jack, inspired this blog. We were discussing my story on the Susquehanna Service Dogs. I'll be following their newest litter as they go from puppies to a trained service dog helping someone with a disability. Of course the adorable puppies got their fair share of "oh they are so cute" and "I want one" comments. Jack said he has always wanted a dog but
couldn't bear losing it. I asked if he had a traumatic loss of a pet as a child and he said no. So, I tried to tell him that the time with a dog makes the eventual loss worthwhile, but he wasn't buying it.
There's the Alfred Lord Tennyson saying "It's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all"... But some people say if you believe that, you've never had your heart broken. So who's right? As someone who has loved, lost, and had their heart broken, I still side with Alfred. What do you think?
