The Big Game -- Penn State vs. Ohio State

It was two years ago, I stood on the sidelines in complete awe, in complete disbelief of what I was seeing and more importantly, hearing.  Beaver Stadium was rockin'.  It was October 8, 2005.  The Buckeyes, led by Troy Smith, invaded Beaver Stadium...  only to meet Tambi Hali and Paul Posluszny.   It was truly a sight to see... a story as a journalist, I loved to tell.  I yearn to tell.  The story about wrote itself.  The players, even, in total awe of the event.  I remember Dan Connor telling me his helmet was shaking because of the noise.  Wow!  I remember Tom Bradley telling me he would never forget this game.  And he's been around for a while.  Heck, I will never forget this game.  And then there was the heart of this team... Michael Robinson who would not give up in this game.  In the press conference afterwards, he said he would remember this experience forever.  I hear you, M-Rob, I hear you!

Fast forward two years.   Maurice Evans is on his way to becoming the next Hali.  He's only a sophomore.  Dan Connor and Sean Lee are certainly amazing linebackers.  And Anthony Morelli... well, he's not exactly Michael Robinson.  But that's ok, I guess.

If Morelli can play with the same intensity as he has the past 3 games, I think the Nittany Lions stand a chance.  And if Morelli could play with 75% of the heart Robinson did... they'd be in great shape.  The O-line has to give Morelli time to find his 19 receivers.   And if he has the time, Penn State will be in business.  But no coughing up the ball this week!!!

The crowd is going to be incredible I'm sure... just like 2 years ago, I expect the Buckeyes to have to use some timeouts because they can't hear.

Wow... I'm already excited and it's Thursday.   I don't want to give you a score prediction, but let's just say I haven't been extremely worried about this game.  I just want to say -- the record-breaking crowd at Beaver Stadium MUST be loud.   You literally can make the difference and in my opinion, WILL make the difference.

I fully expect the electric atmosphere from two years ago to be repeated for this years game.  Beaver Stadium will literally be the THIRD LARGEST CITY in all of Pennsylvania at 8pm on Saturday night, and this is a game I have been anxiously awaiting since Penn State suffered a hard fought loss last year at "the Shoe" in Columbus, Ohio.

How huge is this game?  HUGE.  Penn State and Ohio State have become huge cross state rivals since the Nittany Lions  joined the Big Ten, and almost every player on both sidelines was recruited by both schools.  Ohio State is ranked number 1 in the nation right now.   Penn State will be playing the nation's top-ranked team at home for the first time since Notre Dame came calling in 1989.   ESPN's terrific Saturday morning pre-game show "College GameDay" will air live from outside Beaver Stadium to a National TV audience from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  You know it's a big game when ESPN's Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, and "Herbie" Kirk Herbstreit are in town.

In my neighborhood, and I'm sure in several area neighborhoods, the clock will stop at 8pm.  Several of us will gather at one of my neighbors houses for food, fun, and football.  Just like you Jaime, it might only be Thursday, but I'm already counting down the hours until kickoff.

As for a prediction....?  Penn State 21 - Ohio State 17.  What?  You expected something else?  That'll be the day that I pick against Penn State in public!  Look for a big day from Rodney Kinlaw on the ground.

It will be incredible.  The number 1 game in the country this weekend.  These games don't come along every week for Penn State.  I envy everyone who has a ticket and gets to be part of that crowd.  Your enthusiasm is shared by thousands and thousands of people.  I know you have to report (but go ahead and cheer too).  Good luck, Lions!

OK... Steve... you got me started... I'll bite --- PSU 24  OSU  17.... this will be a close one, that's for sure...  I need to start growing my nails now.
And SusieQ -- the last time a #1 team came to Beaver Stadium -- 1989.
Wow...  that's a while ago, huh?  So Susie Q -- what do you think the score will be?

Fascinating!  1989--that's almost a generation ago.  It's possible some of PSU's freshmen were newborns.  Was the whole world watching then too?  Kinda makes you think other colleges should just postpone their games so that their players can watch some real football-haha.  Here's my prediction--PSU 31 - OSU 24.  By the way, when does JoePa catch Bobby Bowden?
