  • LOVE IS IN THE AIR

In case you didn't catch it, my story tonight at eleven was on natural aphrodisiacs.  In a nutshell, we put three items known for putting passion in a relationship, to the test.  One couple tried oysters, dark chocolate and a tea called "Damiana," and then reported back to us with their review of each item.  The oysters didn't seem to have an effect on our couple, but the dark chocolate however was said to be "sensuous."  As for the tea, it's actually geared more toward having an effect on women and not men, and sure enough, that's what our couple discovered.  The woman testing the tea said she had a pleasant feeling after drinking it.  There are a number of other items that individuals can try to spice things up in their love life...I've even heard pumpkin pie is an aphrodisiac, I think because of all the spices.  In the end, our couple explained to us that more than the items they tested, talking about the experiment and spending time together was what really "put them in the mood." If you're looking for some passion potions, we found a cookbook called "The New InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook" by Martha Hopkins, Randall Lockridge.  It's filled with recipes for natural aphrodisiacs you can make at home.  Good luck to any daring cooks ;) Happy Valentine's Day!
  • We Take Things for Granted

I don't know about anyone else, but that's a phrase I've heard many times in my life.  My mom often reminds me that we are so fortunate and that even the little things "should not be taken for granted." Our basic senses are something a lot of people including myself, certainly take for granted.  I am able to hear, taste, touch, smell and see and on a day to day basis I don't consider what life would be like if I didn't have one of these senses.  The other day I was reminded of how I take these abilities for granted.  Photographer Jim Stanton and I went to a day camp sponsored by the Tri-County Association for the Blind and the Capitol Area Intermediate Unit.  Children in the 1st through 4th grades who are either visually impaired or completley blind spend a week having fun just like any other child.  As a kid, I would have loved playing on the huge inflatable obstacle courses and the playground the camp had to offer, but I can't imagine how different my experience would have been had I not been able to see what I was doing.  Amazingly, these children showed hardly any sign of their disability.  Jim and I wondered "which kids were blind," and we're shocked to find out that all of  the campers were in fact, legally blind.  I know kids are often fearless, but to see a child running around, jumping, swinging and playing with their peers, all while doing it almost completley in the dark for many of them, was incredible.  A few campers used canes to get around and the help and care of a counselor was always nearby, but if you didn't know of the handicap these kids face, prior to visiting the camp, you may not even be able to tell.  Here's what I hope for this group of little ones...I hope that age, their peers and the world we live in doesn't ever give them reason to lose their carefree, confident approach to life.  I also hope more people have the chance to see what I would describe as one of life's little miracles in action.  I think that seeing this first-hand reminded me of how much I take for granted.
  • Faces

Okay so I love to make funny faces (and by "funny" I mean they're really only funny to me).  I don't know when this started but it was early on because just about every family picture (even those in which I'm sporting a perm and Keds) has been ruined by me making faces.  My mom would love it if I would stop, but it's just too fun...until today that is.  I wasn't fortunate enough to witness this, but thanks to a few of my co-workers, I was made aware that one of my ridiculous faces made it on the air! Terrible :( I guess the system we use to run video malfunctioned and played too much of my taped tease, you know, the little segments we do that say something along the lines of "they're fresh, fruity and easy to make...coming up next, everything you need to know about summer cocktails." Anyway, I guess when Photographer, Jim Stanton, and I were out taping our summer cocktails story, I was unhappy with the tease we recorded and of course, made some stupid face afterward that then appeared on this morning's news by accident.  I'm not exactly sure why I'm sharing this, maybe just to deal with the embarrassment and oh yeah, remind myself...NO MORE FACES! Stick out tongue

  • A First...

I've nevered blogged before so bear with me as I try to come up with something that may interest others...afterall, that is the point of blogging, right? To engage others and intiate some sort of community discussion? I guess the most worthwhile/interesting item of the day for me has been my interviews that aired in today's 21 News this Morning.  I had the opportunity to speak with a Harrisburg City Police Officer and his family about his need for a new kidney.  Officer Aarom Gold has struggled with kidney failure for a while and was the recipient of his wife's kidney a few years ago.  Despite the amazing act of his wife Kristen, to donate a kidney, the transplant was unsuccessful and Officer Gold's body rejected the organ.  Today, Gold and his family deal with the day to day struggles of his medical condition, and are waiting hopefully for a new donor.  Anyone can donate a kidney and all costs involved will be covered by the Gold's health insurance company.  You have to have blood type O Positive to be a match.  If you don't know your blood type, you can find out quite easily and even your expenses for taking a trip to the doctor will be reimbursed.  To find out more, visit Officer Gold's website at www.officerneedskidney.com  This is a terrific family in need of help and you might just be the person to make a difference! Have a great day everyone.
