Every One of Them is to Blame

Nearly 25,000 state workers are out of a job. Maybe for a day. Maybe for much longer.  Their lives hang in the balance because we are now nine days into a new fiscal year without a state budget.  Governor Rendell says Pennsylvania can't authorize spending without a spending plan.  House and Senate Republicans say the Governor is using the workers as political pawns.  Every one wants to play the blame game.  Perhaps the Governor is being unreasonable in requiring spending for certain initiatives in the budget.  And perhaps there is truth to the statement that the Legislature has known about the initiatives for months and should be able to meet a July 1 deadline.  But the bottom line is, every one of them is to blame.

Essential or not, there are so many people whose lives are on hold until politics works in this state.  You might argue that that will be a long wait.

Please pass the budget.  An effective spending plan that will benefit the haves and the have nots.  And please pass it soon.

Thoughts?

A budget can be a platform for advocating new initiatives, but not for the appoval and funding of pet projects. The Govenor knows this, He is trying to get around the state legislature in an attempt to finance without the debates and the uncertainty of those pesky legislators NOT voting in his projects.

It is an effective way of getting around and manipulate the democratic processes. It isn't his first attempt and, obviously, it won't be his last.

Here's one question...why are some employees considered "non-essential?"

If they're so "non-essential" why are they employed in the first place?  For some reason, I think they're quite essential - and, I bet they would agree with me.

Oh, and before I forget, I hope all of the companies and banks out there that I have bills awaiting to be paid know that I won't be paying them this month - you see, I just havent figured out my July budget yet, and, those bills aren't "essential" to me either!

Better luck next month PPL, UGI, Comcast, Verizon......

Look for a similar end run around standard procedure when they try to shove their anti-gun agenda down our throats without debate, and probably in the wee hours of the night/morning during some "special session" when everyone is in bed and no one is watching, just like the raise they gave themselves in similar fashion!  What ever happened to leadership by example?  If this is what their new standard of ethical leadership is all about, I've seen quite enough thank you!  The only thing they ever seem to accomplish or agree on is giving themselves raises and adjourning for vacation!  All this biased partisan politics is ruining our state and our country and that effects us all regardless of political affiliation! Is it any wonder why so many American citizens are so turned off by and completely removed from our political process?  This ugliness that has become our political system is only serving to divide us and weaken us, and don't think for one second that our enemies aren't paying very close attention to this division, because they realize how vulnerable we are as a nation divided!   People please wake up while we still have a free country under us!  Our enemies plot and prepare for our ultimate destruction, and all our politicians can do is bicker and point fingers of blame at one another while BOTH are at fault, and meanwhile little if anything is accomplished except proving to them that we are ripe for the picking; so ripe that it scares me, because so few Americans realize just how vulnerable and threatened we really are, and it is only going to get worse unless our leaders put aside their partisan infighting that is preventing them from serving us competently and adequately protecting this country from those who seek our destruction!  Many of our State workers play a vital role in protecting us all from the growing threat of terrorism!  Their absence only makes it easier for those who would like to harm us to do so!  I would have hoped the Governor would have considered that fact before pulling this stunt!  Everyone is essential when it comes to being vigilant against suspicious activity which could be related to terrorism!  I certainly hope that those who were deemed "non-essential" have adequate savings to live off of, pay the bills and feed their families while they are waiting for their unemployment benefits to begin!  I have a hunch that for many of them it's not going to be a picnic or paid vacation.  Maybe if the Govornors next paycheck was tied to the successful approval of this next budget we wouldn't be faced with laying off 25,000 state workers!   He could afford it much better than most state workers can!  This situation is totally unacceptable AND unnecessary, but it's always party politics and pet projects and policies before the good of ALL the people they claim they're serving!
