What's Up With Watson

Penn State vs. Temple... I can't bear to watch.

I spent 4 years sweating, shivering, traveling, cheering, and mostly, crying over Temple Football.  You see, despite their endlessly horrible record, I went to nearly every Saturday game in my time as a student there.

I remember sitting in Veterans Stadium, one of, literally, a handful of students who actually took the time to go to the games.  Iremember only a few wins, mostly losses.  But through it all, I was determined to support the team my tuition was paying to outfit.

Maybe that's why, now, I feel the Owls should walk from football.

I know, over the years this topic has been tossed around...  switching conferences...  pouring more money into the team... but when do you just give up?  How many decades have to go by before you just throw in the towel?

Penn State will, almost certainly, beat my fighting Owls by a long shot.  Maybe Joe Pa's absence will give them a slim chance.... but I doubt it.

I know I should still support the team no matter what.... maybe I'll tune out for a few years and hope to watch a winning team a few decades from now.

It's horrible when a team goes on a long losing streak......But every team does tend to come around over time...Some take longer than others. No need to throw in the towel, however...

Northwestern had a long losing streak in the early '80s......Eventually they won the Big Ten and got to the Rose Bowl!

I have one word for you Angela...... Rutgers.  The Scarlet Knights have been an absolute laughing stock for years.  Like Temple, they are in a large market but have never gotten ANY love.  Rutgers is now undefeated, and in the National Championship picture.....  Yesterday they had the coveted "back page" cover of the New York tabloids.  Losing programs can get turned around.

I think Al Golden (a Penn State alum) is a great young football mind and if given some time can get at least get Temple on the right track.  Hang in there with those Owls.

I left a pretty long response on JB's blog, but I don't think it worked. Where to begin with the Temple football program? I agree with you Angela in that I think it should be scrapped. It seems like we could have used the money for a few more scholarships or maybe to prevent a tuition increase for a year or two. But, in light of the new multi-million dollar practice facility, I think the team is here to stay. I agree with Steve in that if anyone is to turn the program around, it is Al Golden. Nothing but good things have been said about him and his coaching staff, so it leaves a lot to look forward to. However, I think it will take a little longer than it did with Rutgers.

Hope all is well there, I'm actually about to go upstairs and sit in the studio 3 control room in the shadow of the picture of Angela's bright red snowflake sweater.
